Providing Christ-centered education to Preschool through 8th Grade students for over forty years.
-”Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it.” -Proverbs 22:6
Kindergarten
Kindergarten is the beginning of an exciting journey of learning and growing academically, physically, emotionally, and emotionally. Community Christian School offers a full day kindergarten program that focuses on a biblically based curriculum for math, science, reading, writing, social studies, and more. Physical education classes, music, and art class are offered to the Kindergarten children as well. Even the Kindergarteners are encouraged to participate in the basketball prep squad to cheer for the older students in the school. CCS is known for their family friendly united environment, where all students are loved and accepted.
Elementary: 1st-4th Grade
CCS provides an excellent educational foundation for elementary students with curriculum that focuses on literacy, math, history and science from a biblical worldview. Students also participate in Bible, art, choir, music and physical education classes during this crucial learning season to build a well-rounded student in mind, body and spirit. During the school year, students can enjoy field trips and after school enrichment opportunities. They also participate in the winter and spring music program and spring art show. For the past two years computer science has enriched our classrooms as students are learning coding and modeling.
Middle School: 5th & 6th Grade
Middle school is a major time of growth for adolescents. They are growing physically, socially, and spiritually. They are transitioning from being children to becoming young adults. Creating a safe environment for them to grow, explore and learn from a Christian worldview will equip them to adjust and make wise choices in the future. Our goal at CCS is to create an educational environment that will help our adolescents learn through creative ideas, positive projects, and helpful contributions to society.
Coming of age in the 21st century is a difficult prospect for many kids who have little contact even with their own parents. According to researcher, Mihaly Csiksgentmihalyi (2000): “Most of the time, adolescents are either alone (26%) or with friends (34%) and classmates (19%). Very little time is spent in the company of adults. The typical American adolescent spends only about five minutes a day alone with his or her father…Middle schools and junior high schools that shuttle kids from one teacher to the next every 42 minutes are only making the problem worse.
On the other hand, providing a student with one teacher who serves as an advisor, mentor, counselor, or guide can be instrumental for some kids to help them feel a sense of safety, confidence and purpose in their learning” (Armstrong, 2020). At CCS we work to provide this opportunity for our middle school students.
Jr. High: 7th & 8th Grade
7th and 8th grade students are the primary student leaders of the school. They are responsible for daily flag raising, helping with lunch clean up, running the AV system during chapel, and yearbook design, in addition to other roles in the school. Each year we offer special events for Jr. High students, including a two-day retreat for class relationship building, leadership training and in-depth study of God’s Word. Toward the end of the school year, 8th grade students go on a special trip designed to knit them together relationally before transitioning to high school. At the close of the school year, we host a Jr. High Graduation Ceremony for 8th grade students as they step into the next stage of education.
Community Christian School works closely with Fort Dodge Senior High School to create a smooth transition for the students. The students meet with the local high school counselor, design their high school schedules, and even spend a day visiting the school. Over the past years, we have taken pride in the compliments that teachers from Fort Dodge Senior High have given about how academically, physically, and emotionally prepared our students are when they get to high school. CCS has had many alumni in key leadership positions at the high school, which shows that the leadership skills taught at CCS have proven to be very successful!
